What we've been watching this winter break...

Brian and I watch a lot of movies and TV. Like a lot. And we always have a running list of things we want to watch. So invariably when I'm home over breaks we have some catching up to do. I think we've made some pretty good choices this year. So here is a list of all of the things I have been watching recently:

[TV]

1. Veronica Mars

I watched the first season with my roommate my freshman year of college and I loved it. It's smart, funny, and amazingly well-written. The amazing cast of characters makes the show. Kristen Bell is so cool- in a "girls want to be her, guys want to be with her" kinda way. Plus, the storyline is awesome. I had some misgivings about having my chick-flick-hating fiance watch it, because the plot definitely has its share of teenager drama. Brian and I are on disc 2 of the second season (gotta love TV on DVD) and I'm not sure which one of use loves it more. We watched 5 episodes on the day that we finished the first season, at Brian's insistence. What can we say, VMars rocks.

2. Glee

I don't even know where to begin. This is by far my favorite new show this year, and its climbing the ranks with every awesome musical number that they do. I'm not going to detail every amazing thing about the show, because this post would go on forever, but I will give a shout-out to Jane Lynch, who plays Sue Sylvester, the funniest character on the show. There isn't really a way to explain her, you just have to see for yourself. Slowly but surely, every member of my family has been won over by Glee. I'm talking about severe resistance from all of them (except for me, of course) at first. After catching my fifteen-year-old brother watching it by himself last night because it was "on TV," it's official: my entire family watches Glee.

[movies]

1. The Princess and the Frog

I saw this in theaters before Christmas and I loved it! I had no expectations going in, but it was totally entertaining and the animation was really beautiful. Plus, the music was fun and let's face it: it was a LONG overdue Disney Princess movie.

2. Sherlock Holmes

I saw this with Brian and my family in theaters on New Year's Eve. I enjoyed it. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were really good. It seemed to leave some questions unanswered at the end. It wasn't the best movie ever, but it was definitely entertaining.

3. Fight Club

I got this on Netflix because a ton of people had been telling me about how it was a classic and that I needed to watch it. I'm not convinced. It was so weird. It had it's moments where you could tell that there was some deep meaning going on, but the end left me totally unsatisfied. I don't regret watching it, but I also could have gone the rest of my life without seeing it.

[for the rest of break]

1. New Moon
I'm seeing this with my mom this afternoon. I'm keeping expectations low.

2. Up
I saw this in theaters and loved it, but I want to watch it with the fam, too.

3. Les Miserables
Brian's sister gave this to me for my birthday, and I really, really, really want to watch it!
